GDS, NDC and direct connect: how airline content reaches you
Three routes for airline content — what each one means for the fares and options your agency can sell.

When you search for a flight in a B2B platform, the results can come from several different distribution channels. Each channel has its own strengths, and the best platforms combine them.
GDS — global distribution systems
GDSs are the long-established networks that connect airlines with travel sellers worldwide. They offer broad coverage of full-service carriers and standardised booking and ticketing processes used across the industry.
NDC — New Distribution Capability
NDC is an IATA-led data standard that lets airlines distribute richer content — such as bundled fares, ancillaries and personalised offers — directly through modern, XML-based connections.
Direct airline connections
Some airlines, particularly low-cost carriers, distribute primarily through their own APIs. Direct connections give access to fares that may not appear in traditional channels.
Why aggregation matters
- More choice: full-service and low-cost options in the same results.
- Better comparison: the same route priced across channels.
- Less complexity: one connection for the seller instead of many.
Sunedia's air content combines GDS, NDC and direct airline sources, so your team can compare options in one place.
